JACKFISH ALLEY

JackFish Alley

Jackfish Alley is undoubtedly one of the most interesting and visited sites in Ras Mohamed. Usually, the dive starts from a rock with a white mark and a reef on the right hand. After 1-2 minutes of swimming at a vertical wall, you come to a huge underwater cliff. At a depth of 5 meters, the entrance to a large forked cave will open in front of you. The passage going to the right is full of glass fish. Rays of light, breaking through the reef plateau, pierce the water in the right gallery. The left passage will lead you to the exit of the cave at a depth of 9 meters.

Below, a majestic amphitheater will open up in front of you, going into the blue abyss. 10-12 minutes of swimming along the wall at a depth of 12 meters, and you are near the entrance to the system of shallow caves. Several halls, connected by narrow passages, rise to the very roof of the reef. Flocks of glassfish are dancing in the rays of the Sun. This is the best place in Sharm to explore shallow caves and their inhabitants.

Next, the route goes past a coral rock with a colony of the same glassfish in the direction of the edge of the reef plateau, separated from the main reef by a sandy alley. Drift over the plateau at the depth of your choice and you are sure to come across tropical jack fish, tuna, and turtles.  And if you are lucky, sharks.

On the sandy alley, you can meet large comb-tailed rays, and in the early morning - resting whitetip sharks.

In the wall of the plateau at a depth of 60+ meters is the entrance to the deep cave system. Diving to this place requires technical qualifications and appropriate equipment.

    • Recommended level of training for Jackfish alley diving: Advanced Open Water Diver PADI or equivalent. If you are still an Open Water Diver, we advise you to take the Advanced Open Water Diver course.
    • Boats waiting for divers cruise over the plateau of the satellite reef. Always stay close to the bottom. Beware of screws.
    • When visiting caves, be careful: the walls are covered with sharp shells. Various scorpion fishes can be found in caves. All hoses and gages of your scuba gear should be properly secured.
    • It is easy to get lost on the vast plateau of the satellite reef. To get to the reef wall, swim in the direction of decreasing depth. If you can't find the reef wall, only surface under the signal buoy. A compass will help you to navigate.
    • Under no circumstances should you try to find deep caves and enter them without a guide and appropriate technical cave training.
